I. ELIGIBILITY AND DEADLINES:
  1. Any Professional Photographer of Oregon member in good standing is eligible to enter the Print Competition. Membership dues must be current in order to enter.
  2. Non-members can enter as long as they are members of PPA or a PPA affiliate. Non-members’ entries will be scored but not awarded.
  3. Print cases can be brought to the Summer Seminar and dropped off, with payment, at the registration desk.
However, if sent in the mail, print cases should be sent to:

II.     ENTRIES ALLOWED:
  1. Total number of entries allowed per case is four. 
  2. These may be albums or prints.
  3. Entries may be 11 x 14 and do not need to be mounted.  However, Prints of other sizes, up to 16 x 20 must be mounted.
  4. No foreign material may be added to the front or back of the entry that may damage another entry.
  5. Each entry must be titled and the entrant’s name shall not appear anywhere on the face of the entry.

III.     ENTRIES NOT ALLOWED:
  1. Images previously entered in PPO print competition may not be entered.
  2. Images previously entered in PPA National competition may not be entered.
  3. Images previously entered in Western States Regional Competition may not be entered unless Regional competition is held prior to the PPO Annual Convention. 
  4. No photograph or album will be eligible that has been made under the supervision of an instructor or as a class assignment
  5. No two entries shall be of the same subject (except for albums)
  6. An image entered in an album cannot then be entered as an individual submission in any other PPO competition.

IV.     ENTRANT’S CERTIFICATION OF RESPONSIBILITY:
  1. Photographers must certify with his/her signature, on the entry form, that he/she has created the original exposure, and that printing and special effects were done by the photographer, or under their direction.  All necessary model releases are the responsibility of the photographer…not PPO.
  2. If you enter a print that is clearly entered into the wrong Division/Classification, an attempt will be made to contact you.  However, if unreachable, the Print Committee Chairman may reclassify your print. His/her decision is final.

V.     ENTRY FEE / FORMS:
  1. Entrants must include the proper entry form(s) and print labels AND the correct entry fee in order to qualify.  Please note that there are different forms/labels for prints and albums.
  2. $20 per case of up to 4 prints  or $10 per print.  Make checks payable to Professional Photographers of Oregon. Credit card Visa/MC payments must include expiration dates and signature of the cardholder. Attach your payment to the Official Entry Form.  (Do not use staples)  Payment must be included in case at time of log-in.

VI.     CATEGORIES / DIVISIONS / CLASSIFICATION OF ENTRIES:
    There are no divisions or categories for the Summer Competition.

VII.    Awards:

  1. There is one award at the Summer Competition: Best of Show, which is the highest scoring print.  If there is a tie, multiple Best of Shows may be awarded.
  2. Prints scoring 80 or above will be eligible for award.
  3. Entrants will receive ½ merit for entering four prints.

VIII.    RULES FOR ENTRY ON ALBUMS:
There are now two distinct album categories: the original Album category where all images appearing in the album are to be photographed entirely by the entrant; and now, the Multiple Photographer Album category. This album category has been created specifically for events that require more than one photographer photographing the event.  The following are the rules of entry for each album category.
Single-Photographer Album
The following are the Rules for Entry:
  1. Submission of an album will be counted as one entry; however, you may submit up to
  2. four individual albums as any part of your four total allowed Professional Photographic entries.
  3. No multiple volume albums are allowed.
  4. All images in the album must have been photographed by the entrant. No other photographers’ images are allowed.
  5. All images must be from the same Social Event.
  6. Album size is limited to a maximum outside dimension of 400 square inches or smaller album. However, images within the album can be of any size for the purpose of enhancing creativity and the story telling aspects of the album.
  7. An image entered in an album cannot then be entered as an individual submission.
  8. Albums must be shipped in a well-protected, reusable fiber, plastic or metal case.
  9. Multiple-Photographer Album
  10. This album category has been created specifically for events where there is more than one photographer photographing the event. Rules are as stated above, exempt of rule number THREE.  Include names of each photographer whose images are displayed in album on entry form. 
  11. All participating photographers must be PPO members to qualify for awards..
  12. Each participating photographer must have a minimum of 20 of his/her images represented in the album.  However, the album will be judged as one entry.  Each participating photographer must complete and sign an entry form and include a case fee.
  13. Submission of a Multiple Photographer Album will be counted as one entry towards each of the participating photographers.  FOUR total allowed Photographic Open entries Albums will be judged based upon the twelve elements of a merit image.

IX.    JUDGING PROCEDURES:
  1. JUDGING SESSION:  The judging sessions are open to the public for observation.  During the Summer Competition, each print will be critiqued in as much as time permits.
  2. JUDGING PANEL MAKE-UP:  Two qualified judges plus judges-in-training, having completed the judges training course, will be judging at the Summer Seminar. The sixth judge will act as the alternate judge. All qualified judges are qualified by Oregon, nationally or in another state. A jury chairman, who is a qualified judge, will be in charge of each panel. In the event that there are no judges-in-training, then the panel will be made up of all qualified judges. 
  3. The Jury Chairman will have the authority to decide any questions not specifically covered by these rules and his/her decision will be final.  Any entry not following the rules in this document will automatically be disqualified.   Prints which have been disqualified for any reason are not eligible for ribbons, awards or trophies.
